NEW YORK - Serbian FM Marko Djuric, who is attending the 80th UN General Assembly meeting in New York, said a Serbian delegation had begun active participation in the annual session, holding numerous bilateral and multilateral meetings.
Djuric said that, on the first day of the visit to New York, he had met with the FMs of Cyprus, Somalia, Italy, Azerbaijan and many other countries, and that he had also attended many events on the sidelines of the UN session.
Djuric said meetings with representatives of the energy business were held as well.
"A common denominator of all those very varied meetings are our efforts to create an environment where Serbia will have as many countries as possible that will be divided only into smaller friends and greater friends," Djuric said.
Serbia wants to cherish friendly relations, not only in the immediate neighbourhood, but also beyond, continuing the traditions of the Non-Aligned Movement, of which it was a co-founder, Djuric said.
He noted that this year marked the 80th anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter and that Serbia strongly supported multilateralism and rule of international law.
"Serbia fully advocates multilateralism, which means rule of international law. Not only because of Kosovo-Metohija, which will be a major topic of all meetings, but also for the sake of preserving global stability and peace," Djuric said.
He added that Serbia was recognised as a dependable and responsible partner in the international community that was consistent in its positions, be it on economic, security or political issues.
Djuric said Serbia was striving to present itself as a country of stability, consistency and the future.
"Everywhere and at every step, we are trying to promote an image of Serbia as a country of stability, as well as a country of commitment to principles, a country looking to the future," Djuric said.
