BAKU - Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said on Wednesday a new agreement on additional natural gas supplies to Serbia had been agreed with Azerbaijan, and noted that Serbia would get additional gas quantities from Azerbaijan in the winter months.

Speaking to reporters after meetings in Baku, Brnabic said the agreement was due to be signed in the coming weeks.

"We will have additional gas quantities, as requested by President Aleksandar Vucic for the sake of our energy security. What is important for our citizens and businesses is Serbia-Azerbaijan cooperation in the energy sector. Energy security is an integral part of national security, and Azerbaijan is one of our most important and most loyal friends," Brnabic noted.

In addition to gas quantities that have already been agreed, Azerbaijan will provide additional quantities to Serbia, following an explicit request by Vucic, Brnabic said.

"That is very important for the upcoming winter, and also shows how important the personal friendship between President Vucic and President Aliyev is. At all meetings I had, from the meeting with the parliament speaker to the meetings with the PM and the ministers of economy and finance, everyone said Serbia is a priority and that they will accommodate all its requests," Brnabic noted.

She said the visit to Baku had been very successful and that her numerous meetings had addressed topics that were important for Serbia, as well as for Azerbaijan.

Brnabic said parliamentary cooperation with Azerbaijan had been especially strong since 2022, when her predecessor Vladimir Orlic signed an agreement on bilateral parliamentary cooperation.

She also said the current Serbian parliament had a Serbia-Azerbaijan friendship group and that the cooperation with the Azerbaijani parliament would be continued at the same pace.
