Vucic, Guterres discuss Kosovo-Metohija, regional affairs and UN's role

NEW YORK - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in New York on Thursday to discuss Kosovo-Metohija, regional affairs, the UN's role in the world and other issues.

"As always, a good and open discussion with Guterres, with whom I exchanged views on the most important global topics and key issues regarding the future of the world we will leave behind to generations to come. We also discussed Kosovo-Metohija, our regional circumstances and potential steps towards overcoming challenges. During the discussion, I noted that I listened to his introductory address particularly attentively, as well as to the main messages to today's leaders, which we all need to think about," Vucic posted on his buducnostsrbijeav Instagram profile.

He added that they had especially discussed the place and the role of the UN in a world undergoing swift and often complex changes whose impact reached beyond local and regional relevance.

"In that sense, I noted that a serious, prudent, responsible and rational policy, as well as a return to the framework of the principles of the UN Charter, is the only right path towards a more just and more secure world. On that path, Serbia, as a UN-founding state, will always provide strong support to efforts to restore on the global scene the principles upon which need to rest international relations that are suited to all stakeholders, in the manner in which our country is doing so consistently, regardless of the circumstances, obstacles and challenges," Vucic concluded.
