BELGRADE - The east African state of Malawi has officially confirmed its participation in EXPO 2027 Belgrade, joining 120 other countries that will be presenting their renditions of the event's main theme, Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All, from May 15 through August 15, 2027.
"We were pleased to receive the news a country of amiable, hospitable people will come to Serbia in less than two years and that, at EXPO 2027 Belgrade, we will be able to showcase to the world the richness of music, play and dances of the 'warm heart of Africa'. We thank Malawi for its trust and invite other African countries to join the global Play for Humanity," EXPO 2027 Belgrade LLC Director Danilo Jerinic noted in a statement.
Serbia and Malawi established official diplomatic relations in 1998, but their cooperation dates back from as early as the era of the Non-Aligned Movement, the statement said.
Malawi made its debut at specialised EXPOs in Lisbon in 1998 and joined the Bureau International de Expositions (BIE) in 2011.
The 93-day EXPO 2027 Belgrade, the first-ever EXPO in the Western Balkans, is expected to attract more than four million visitors from Serbia and around the world.
