BELGRADE - Commenting on a decision by EU energy ministers to back a proposal to phase out Russian oil and gas imports to the EU by January 2028, Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said she saw no way out of the situation but hoped President Aleksandar Vucic had a solution.
"This is catastrophic news for us, really catastrophic news. I do not remember us receiving such serious and bad news for Serbia recently. We have been building gas pipelines to have unobstructed, secure flow of gas to the Republic of Serbia," Brnabic told Tanjug.
"We were also working on diversification of gas sources to ensure Serbia has energy security and that it is as sustainable as possible in terms of energy," she said.
"Now that we have problems with gas as well as with oil, this is catastrophic news for Serbia, and I really see no way out of this situation at this point. I am expecting the return of the president of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic from Hungary, and I hope he will have some solution and some idea how Serbia can resolve all these problems and how our economy can survive all these things," Brnabic said.
