TBILISI - Serbian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Orlic met with Georgian counterpart Shalva Papuashvili on Monday during an official visit to Tbilisi.

The parties confirmed mutual support concerning their countries' European integration, as well as readiness for intensive cooperation and experience-sharing.

The meeting was also attended by the head of the Georgian parliament's committee on European integration and the president of a Georgia-Serbia friendship group in the legislature.

The parties confirmed the good and traditionally friendly relations between Serbia and Georgia, based on historical, cultural and religious ties between the two peoples, as well as on the principled position of mutual respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the two states, the Serbian parliament said in a statement.

Orlic thanked Georgia for its firm position on non-recognition of the so-called Kosovo and for its support to Serbia regarding Pristina's efforts to join international organisations.

They expressed readiness to advance cooperation in all fields of mutual interest, in particular in the economy, as well as interest in stepping up political dialogue.

They also said they were pleased with the parliamentary cooperation to date, pursued in line with a partnership agreement signed by the two parliaments in 2019 as well as, above all, with the dynamics of meetings at the highest level.

Orlic informed the Georgian parliamentary officials in detail of the current situation in Kosovo-Metohija and the position that establishment of a Community of Serb Municipalities, security for Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija and respect of their fundamental human rights remained paramount issues for Belgrade.

He noted that Pristina, and Albin Kurti personally, were violating the Serbs' rights brutally on a daily basis.

"Belgrade is continuing to pursue the state policy of peace and stability for all. That policy, which we stand united around, is what has enabled Serbia to register historic success and results in numerous fields in the past years, primarily in the economy and infrastructure," Orlic said.
