BELGRADE - Congratulating Republika Srpska on its day, January 9, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday Republika Srpska had been created for peace and therefore remained one of the firm bulwarks of preservation of regional stability, and added that Serbia would always stand with Srpska and its people.

"To all citizens of Republika Srpska, I extend my congratulations on the 34 years of existence and the fight for the preservation of the Serbian name, religion, tradition, customs and identity," Vucic posted on Instagram.

He noted that Republika Srpska had been "born out of fire, built in difficult times, disputed and denied, but always proud, unbreakable and dignified."

"This is also a day when we celebrate togetherness that connects us through the history, culture and values we share. Our ties are unbreakable, strong and eternal, just like the essence of the Serbian nation, wherever it may live," Vucic wrote in the post.

Today, we again send a message of peace and sincere commitment to cooperation, development and respect for diversity, a message that togetherness is the thread that makes us stronger to accomplish the vision of a future where there is a place for everyone, he noted.

The Republic of Serbia will always be there for Republika Srpska and its people because, more than ever before, we all need consistency in advocacy of peace, wisdom that leads us on the right path, responsibility in decision-making and seriousness in the face of challenges, he added.

"That is exactly the oath to future generations that will continue to build Srpska and Serbia. Long live Republika Srpska! Long live the Republic of Serbia!" Vucic noted.

Republika Srpska Day celebrations commemorate January 9, 1992, when Republika Srpska was established under the initial name of the Republic of Serbs in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
