BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced on Tuesday evening a decision on elections was due in about ten days.

"We will definitely have a decision in about ten days. There are no traps when it comes to elections. That is where the people decide about what kind of future they want and who they want to entrust it with. I think that elections are a very important thing. Like I have always said that the state is not a toy, in the same way, elections are extremely important - always," Vucic said in an appearance on Informer TV.

When choosing their future, the people must elect those who will best protect and safeguard the interests of the country, Vucic added.

"That is not simple," he noted.

Vucic: Serbia has acquired some of world's most powerful weapons systems from Israel

BELGRADE - The Serbian army is 20 times more powerful today than it was 15 years ago, and if Serbia were to be attacked in the way it was attacked in 1999, it would down 200 to 250 planes, not two or three, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday evening.

"That is why no one will attack us ever again. But that is why we must become even stronger and make further progress in that regard. By the way, you should not think we would not be run over like cockroaches if we were not much stronger," Vucic said on Informer TV.

He added that the Serbian Armed Forces were strong thanks to funds earned by defence industry factories, while one of the previous governments had melted tanks at a steel plant.

Today, the Serbian Armed Forces are a strong army, including thanks to acquiring some of the world's most powerful weapons systems from Israel, Vucic added.

Speaking about the Kosovo-Metohija issue, Vucic noted that it had been returned to the negotiating table.

"Serbia is one and united, in spite of all the problems we have. We have returned Kosovo to the negotiating table - they still have a problem with that, 18 years after the majority of the most developed part of the world recognised it as independent," Vucic said.
He added that, while some were telling him to get rid of Kosovo-Metohija, others wanted to go to war.

"Today, we would have something to go to war with, but I do not want to go to war because I promised peace to the people and I want the country to move forward," Vucic said.

Vucic: Had we imposed sanctions on Russia, I would have been named greatest democratic leader

BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday evening he would have been named the world's greatest democratic leader had Serbia imposed sanctions on Russia.

"In that case, there would be no protests," Vucic said on Informer TV.

"But I would have let down the soul of our people. This way, I have at least demonstrated that I have been able to fight for the soul of my people for four and a half years," Vucic said.

He said Serbia had lost many opportunities due to its failure to impose sanctions on Russia, and added that he was unsure whether Russia understood the extent of pressure Serbia had been under.

"With big powers, including the US, Russia, Germany and others, it goes without saying that you must do as they expect you to," Vucic said.

"The first time you do not do something, you are immediately not good enough," he added.

Vucic noted that the US and the EU failed to understand that, at the end of the day, the ruling Serbian Progressive Party was keeping Serbia on the European path.
