BELGRADE - Former Yugoslav Army Chief of General Staff Gen Momcilo Perisic has been released from prison after serving more than two thirds of a four-year prison sentence he had received for espionage.
On June 25, the Higher Court in Belgrade approved a request for Perisic's conditional release, filed by his attorney, Tanjug learns.
The decision took effect on July 3, after which Perisic was released from prison.
Perisic was convicted for disclosing secret information to a US embassy staffer - a US national - in Belgrade in 2002.
In March 2022, the Appeals Court in Belgrade increased his sentence to four years in prison.
