PARIS - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who is in Paris for the Bastille Day military parade, said on Tuesday it was a great honour for Serbia to be attending France's National Day celebrations at this level for the first time.
"I am grateful to President Emmanuel Macron, who, with this invitation, has again confirmed his personal friendship and great respect for Serbia," Vucic posted on Instagram.
He also noted that his job, always and everywhere, was to look after Serbia's interests and that he was in Paris to work for his people and all Serbian citizens.
Earlier, on Place de la Concorde, Vucic was greeted by French PM Sebastien Lecornu, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot, Minister of the Armed Forces Catherine Vautrin, Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Energy Sovereignty Roland Lescure and Brigitte Macron, wife of the French president.
This is the first time a Serbian president has been invited to France's National Day parade.
Vucic is the only official in attendance whose country is not a member of NATO, the EU or the Coalition of the Willing.
