LONDON/BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic says Brussels should abandon an increasingly merit-based approach to EU enlargement, under which Montenegro and Albania are frontrunners, and instead admit the Western Balkans together.

"What do you want to build? Stronger borders between everybody? If we all go together... there would be no borders between Pristina, Belgrade, and all the others," Vucic has told the Financial Times in an interview, adding that he hoped for a Big Bang move for the entire region to join the EU.

"We need the region to be united. Not to be a new conflict zone (among) people that enter the EU and others that are far away from that," he noted.

Commenting on the current political situation in Serbia, Vucic said early parliamentary elections would be held by early December.

"Most probably, first we’ll have a parliamentary election, and then presidential. Parliamentary elections will be done by early December. There is no space for different decisions," he said.
