BELGRADE - Student protesters who have been taking part in blockades in Serbia following the November 1, 2024 deadly collapse of a railway station canopy in Novi Sad announced on social media on Monday that an association named Student List had been registered with the Business Registers Agency.

It is the first time the students, whose social media profiles describe them as a self-organised group of students, have been registered in an official form.

Following the railway station tragedy, groups of students blocked the majority of state-owned university faculties in the country, making it impossible to hold classes or conduct examinations.

At the time the blockades began, they made four demands regarding responsibility for the fall of the canopy and categorically said the demands were non-political in nature but, in May 2025, they demanded early parliamentary elections.

They have also announced that they would put forward an electoral list, which they said would not be comprised of students.

Despite pledges to publish parts of their programme at protest gatherings, they have only criticised the authorities without proposing concrete solutions.
