BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker and Acting President of the Republic Ana Brnabic said on Wednesday the Student List had taken control of the police, prosecutor's offices and courts to "rule by terror", and called on it "to return the institutions so that they can operate in keeping with the law and the Constitution of this country."

At a press conference in the parliament building, Brnabic said the Student List had taken control of the police to "harass the people, the prosecutor's office and judges, to terrorise people who do not comply with the Student List dictatorship immediately."

She said the headmaster of a renowned Novi Sad grammar school was one such example, after being "put in 48-hour custody for no reason."

"And then they requested 30 days of imprisonment," she added.

Brnabic called on the Student List to "return all those institutions to the people so that they can do their job and stop organised crime groups, the mafia and the worst and the most dangerous criminals, who have been on a rampage since the Student List won - since the morning of October 26."

"They are on a rampage and doing what they want across Serbia, in cities and municipalities, racketeering businesspeople and taking business deals away from people," she added.

"Assume responsibility. Return the institutions, at least those institutions, to the people, so that they can protect the people," Brnabic said.

Commenting on decisions by the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media to hand down penalties to Prva TV and Informer TV for what the body said were violations of the rules of media reporting during electoral campaigns, Brnabic noted that independent institutions no longer existed and that there was only a "Student List dictatorship."
