Brieger: Serbia a dependable partner of EU

BELGRADE - Serbian Deputy PM and Defence Minister Milos Vucevic met on Thursday with the chairman of the European Union Military Committee (EUMC) Gen Robert Brieger, who noted that Serbia had demonstrated it was a dependable partner of the EU.

Besides the safeguarding of territorial integrity and sovereignty and regional cooperation, EU membership is Serbia's foreign policy objective, Vucevic said, pointing out the significance of the contribution by the Serbian Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces to the EU Common Security and Defence Policy, the ministry said in a statement.

He noted that Serbia had been an active contributor to EU missions and operations since 2012 and was currently participating in two EU military missions and one operation.

Serbia plans to increase the scope of Serbian Armed Forces participation through engagement in the EU training mission in Mozambique, too, Vucevic said.

Brieger informed Vucevic of the state of affairs in the EU missions and operations in the context of the altered geopolitical situation.
