NEW YORK - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will be representing Serbia at Monday's UN Security Council session on UN Secretary General's Antonio Guterres's semi-annual report on the work of UNMIK, the UN mission in Kosovo-Metohija.
The report will be presented by UNMIK chief Caroline Ziadeh.
The session is scheduled for 4 pm CET.
In the report, covering the period from September 19, 2023 to March 15, 2024, Guterres notes that, despite some progress on implementation of EU-facilitated agreements, tensions between Belgrade and Pristina have escalated and that the security situation in the north of Kosovo-Metohija remains fragile.
He also notes that there has been no progress on establishment of a Community of Serb Municipalities despite diplomatic pressure and voices concern over Pristina's regulation on cash operations that has affected the economic and social rights of Serbs and other non-majority communities.
Besides attending the session, Vucic will also speak with UNSC President Vanessa Frazier of Malta and Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia.
Vucic will attend a reception to be hosted by the Serbian Permanent Mission to the UN for permanent representatives of UN member states.
He will hold a series of consultations and meetings with representatives of UN member states to explain Serbia's position on the announced Srebrenica genocide resolution.
He has announced meetings with the ambassadors of more than 120 UN member states and said a headquarters to deal with affairs related to attempts to adopt the resolution had been set up at the Serbian Mission.
He said Serbia's chances were not great but that it would fight against the resolution.
He said adopting such a resolution would further deteriorate relations in the region.
