Student protesters from Serbia received by Slovenian, Croatian and French MEPs in Strasbourg

STRASBOURG - Student protesters from Serbia who completed a bicycle trek from Novi Sad to Strasbourg on Tuesday evening visited the European Parliament on Wednesday.

They were received by Slovenian MEP Irena Jovova, Croatian MEP Gordan Bosanac and French MEP Fabienne Keller.

Earlier, outside the Council of Europe building, the students read out letters to European institutions and French President Emmanuel Macron, in which they said there was "no justice" in Serbia and that they wanted to demonstrate they were "not giving up" on their demands, media reports said.

In the letter to Macron, they said their protest had been sparked by the Novi Sad railway station tragedy but that the cause was "a systemic lack of responsibility, corruption and devastation of institutions."

Serbia needs EU support, but not in the form of protocolar meetings, they noted, adding that they did not want "sanctions, but accountability."

The group of students from four Serbian universities embarked on the bicycle trip to Strasbourg on April 3.
