Vucic: School shooter "in special place", father and mother arrested

BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said the perpetrator of a deadly school shooting in downtown Belgrade this morning was "in a special place" and would be hospitalised at a special section of a neurophyschiatric clinic.

"His father has been arrested as the owner of the weapons he evidently stored in a way that was against the rules, even though he had all the required licences. The mother has been detained as well," Vucic told a press conference.

He said the boy came from a well-off and reputable family and that his father was a professor and a doctor of medicine.

"Those people are well-off, as are the parents of the majority of children from that school," he added.

Vucic said the "horrible crime" had taken place in one of the top three schools in the country.

He added that, prior to the crime, police officers in charge of security at the school had done their job before the start of morning classes.

"This is one of the most difficult days in the modern history of Serbia," he noted.
