LILLE - The Serbia men's national basketball team lost 110-84 to the USA in a Group C Round 1 game of the Olympic tournament in Lille on Sunday evening.
Serbia got off to an excellent start, developing a 10-2 lead, but the USA responded with an 11-0 run and won the first quarter 25-20.
After winning the first half 58-49, the USA extended their lead further to win the game comfortably and confirm the status of the top favourite for the Olympic gold.
Kevin Durant led the scoring for the USA with 23 points and was followed by LeBron James with 21 points, Jrue Holiday with 15 points and Devin Booker with 12 points, while Steph Curry and Anthony Edwards each added 11 points.
Nikola Jokic was the top scorer for Serbia with 20 points and was followed by Bogdan Bogdanovic with 14 points and Ognjen Dobric with 13 points, and Vasilije Micic and Aleksa Avramovic added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Earlier, South Sudan beat Puerto Rico 90-78 in the other Group C match.
On Wednesday, Serbia will face Puerto Rico and South Sudan will take on the USA.
