LOZNICA - Serbian football giants Red Star Belgrade won their 28th national cup and clinched a fourth consecutive double with a 2-1 victory over Vojvodina Novi Sad in the cup final at the Lagator Stadium in Loznica, western Serbia, on Tuesday evening.
Mirko Ivanic put Red Star in front in the 37th minute following a Cherif Ndiaye assist and Uros Spajic headed home in the 66th minute to extend the lead, but Aleksa Vukanovic netted for Vojvodina nine minutes into second-half injury time to make it 2-1.
Red Star had as many as three goals disallowed for offside following VAR checks - two by Ndiaye and one by Osman Bukari.
Red Star's new cup title has secured a direct berth in European club competitions for TSC Backa Topola, who will play in the UEFA Conference League group stage if they get knocked out in the Europa League play-offs.
If they retain the fifth place in the Serbian Superliga, Vojvodina will go to Conference League qualifiers.
