BELGRADE - The Serbian Civil Aviation Directorate and the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency on Thursday signed an agreement on introducing direct flights between Belgrade and Tbilisi on June 15.
Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijevic said the move was the first step to a stronger partnership between the two countries.
The agreement was signed by Civil Aviation Directorate Director Mirjana Cizmarov and the director of the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency, Givi Davitashvili.
Sofronijevic said the agreement did not only represent a legal framework, but also a new chapter in Serbia-Georgia relations.
"This is the first flight route to connect Belgrade and Tbilisi - from June 15, people will be able to travel to Georgia without changing planes," Sofronijevic said.
She noted that the agreement gave significance to Serbia's flagship carrier Air Serbia and added that she believed the airline would fly to many more new destinations in the future.
"Our path is a path of stability and cooperation. We would like to thank the Government of Georgia for its openness, as well as to all our partners," she said.
Air Serbia will be flying to Tbilisi three times a week.
