BELGRADE - For many years, Austria has been one of Serbia's most important and most reliable economic partners, Serbian Deputy PM and Minister of Economy Adrijana Mesarovic said at a Serbia-Austria business forum in Belgrade that brought together 70 Serbian and Austrian companies.

She said the forum, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, was another major step in the continued development of bilateral economic cooperation.

"Today's meeting represents not only an opportunity to exchange ideas, but also a strong impetus to new projects, investments and partnerships amid not-so-great geopolitical circumstances," Mesarovic said.

She said bilateral trade between Serbia and Austria had totalled 1.78 bln euros in 2024, with exports to Austria at 720 mln euros and imports from Austria at 1.1 bln euros.

"In the first four months of this year alone, a trade volume exceeding 600 mln euros was registered. I would especially stress the significance of Austrian investments in Serbia. With a total inflow of 2.9 bln euros since 2012, Austria is the third-largest investor in Serbia," Mesarovic said.

She said Serbia was devoting more and more attention to sustainable business operations as well as to its startup ecosystem.

"Today, Serbia has over 600 actively registered startup companies and it will soon have five science and technology parks, it has developed hubs for artificial intelligence, biotech and the fintech sector, as well as a young, highly skilled IT community that is cooperating more and more with partners from Europe and around the world," she said.

She noted that preparations for EXPO 2027 Belgrade were underway, with 115 confirmed participant countries to date.

"Our Belgrade is opening its door wide to the entire world, and the information that delegates from 140 countries from all continents came to Belgrade for the recent EXPO 2027 International Planning Meeting shows the amount of interest in the international expo," the minister noted.
