BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Internal and External Trade Tomislav Momirovic said on Wednesday no country in the region or Europe maintained the same level of cooperation and mutual trust with China that Serbia did, and noted that China was Serbia's second-largest economic partner behind Germany.

Speaking to the RTS, Momirovic said Serbian exports to China in 2023 were worth 1.2 bln dollars but that the goal was to boost bilateral trade further.

"Today, China is our second most important economic partner behind Germany, which is the biggest and the strongest EU economy. But China has grown incredibly in the past ten years," Momirovic said.

He said the Bor mining complex and the Smederevo steel mill had become engines of Serbia's development after being acquired by Chinese companies and that motorways and a high-speed rail line between Belgrade and Novi Sad had been built in cooperation with Chinese partners.

A Serbia-China committee on economic cooperation will meet in Belgrade on Wednesday to discuss tourism, infrastructure, trade, digital economy and new technologies, as well as EXPO 2027, which Momirovic said was the most significant project for Serbia for the next three years.
