NEW YORK - Serbian FM Marko Djuric has signed a joint communique with Guyanese counterpart Hugh Hilton Todd on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Guyana.
The communique was signed on the sidelines of the 79th UN General Assembly session in New York.
In a statement released by the Serbian MFA, Djuric said he was pleased the decision to establish diplomatic relations had been formalised.
In a discussion with Todd, Djuric said Serbia was interested in advancing the overall bilateral ties and establishing cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
"Serbia is also ready to step up political dialogue by establishing a mechanism of political consultations, through high-level visits and through cooperation within regional organisations in the Western hemisphere in which Serbia has observer status," Djuric said.
Recalling the good ties between the former Yugoslavia and Guyana, Djuric said that, given the existing tradition of cooperation, there was ample space for development of political and economic relations as well as for cooperation in the field of higher education.
