TIRANA - At the European Political Community summit in Tirana, EU institutions sent an important message that the union is more pro-enlargement than it was before, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday.

It was also said that, if the EU candidate countries do their job, they will be able to count on support on that path, Vucic told reporters,

"It is an important message for us that brings new energy, new ambition, and I believe we can do important things for Serbia," he said.

He said the Tirana summit had also been an opportunity for discussions with many European officials.

"I had an important meeting and a long discussion with European Council President Antonio Costa. I spoke with numerous European leaders, from the new Austrian chancellor - whom I also met today, and with whom I discussed further cooperation with Austria - to Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, Polish PM Donald Tusk, and Hungarian PM Viktor Orban, with whom I will hopefully meet in Serbia as early as next week," Vucic said.

He noted that an encounter with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had been one of his most important meetings of the day and that they had agreed to hold a discussion and meet soon.

He said Merz had a good team, and noted that he had known the people at the German MFA for decades.

"Those are exceptional, exquisite professionals and I believe they will make a significant contribution to further progress and development of our relations," Vucic said.

He added that he had also met with Slovak PM Robert Fico, Georgian PM Irakli Kobahidze and EU foreign policy and security chief Kaja Kallas.

Vucic said he had also had brief encounters with all other participants, including Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez and the president of Greece, and that they had discussed important issues.

He also said no one had mentioned his recent trip to Moscow and that Tusk, whose country holds the EU presidency, had been extremely fair and that that should not be forgotten.
