Novi Sad mayor launches initiative to build memorial to railway station tragedy victims

NOVI SAD - Novi Sad Mayor Zarko Micin launched an initiative with the City Assembly's Council for Culture to build a memorial to the victims of the November 1 overhang collapse at the Novi Sad railway station, which left 16 people dead.

In an Instagram post, Micin wrote that he had decided to launch the initiative after a discussion with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

"On November 1, Novi Sad experienced one of the biggest tragedies in its history. The deaths and the suffering of innocent citizens at the railway station will remain an eternal wound for all residents of Novi Sad and Serbia. I proposed that a memorial be erected on the site of the accident as a lasting material mark in the culture of remembrance of the lives we have lost and of the tragedy that has befallen us," Micin wrote.

He added that the fundamental elements of the memorial must include the names of the injured and killed victims as well as information about the tragic event.
