ALEKSINAC - Serbian Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic and PM Djuro Macut visited a Gendarmerie base in Aleksinac, southern Serbia, and said Serbian gendarmes were a pillar of the country's safety and security.
Macut said he was pleased with the Gendarmerie's capabilities and abilities and noted that he considered it akin to army units in terms of equipment levels, as well as in terms of what it was able to provide.
"It is definitely a guarantee of safety and security, like Minister Dacic said, when it comes to bolstering the defence capabilities of the Republic of Serbia as well as to overall preservation of peace and order in the Republic of Serbia, which certainly has a major impact, especially at this time, on safeguarding stability in the country and ensuring that our overall social situation and economic development are maintained at the present level," Macut said.
He said the capabilities of the police force - of which the Gendarmerie is a part of - needed to be bolstered to improve national security even further and ensure the citizens felt safe and secure.
Thanking Macut for visiting the Gendarmerie, Dacic said it was one of the key units that were guarantors of Serbia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
"It is not used solely for stable public peace and order, but it represents a kind of guarantee and our defence capabilities for protecting the country. In that sense, it is very important that we have the government's support to strengthen this unit further," Dacic said.
