Vucic: There will be no capitulation or surrender of Serbia

BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday evening there would be no capitulation or surrender of Serbia.

People need to understand the moment we are in, and it is the toughest moment for Serbia because NATO is everywhere around us, Vucic said on a Happy TV talk show.

Secondly, as the Ukraine war rages on, no one understands the special circumstances and what was happening in 1999, or our narrative about territorial integrity and sovereignty, he said.

Thirdly, we are pretending that nothing has happened and that everything is the same to us, even though many difficult things have happened, he said.

Vucic said his fourth point was that no one from the Serbian state leadership had written any plan or proposal for resolving the Kosovo-Metohija issue.

"The proposal was written by power-wielders from Germany and France," he said.

My fifth point is that people are worried and that they hear all sorts of things, he said.

"They have to be worried, but they must know I have no intention of signing a capitulation of Serbia... I brought the plan to the parliament and explained how bad things are, but we must stay in the talks. There will be no capitulation or surrender, and I have unequivocally made it clear to them that Serbia will not consent to Kosovo-Metohija joining the UN," he said.

He also said Pristina would not form a Community of Serb Municipalities in Kosovo-Metohija, while he was ready for various forms of compromise.

"Serbia is ready and fair and acting like a serious factor," Vucic said.

He also criticised the behaviour of the opposition and added that "some wise guys are saying I am measuring (the value of) our holy land with money."

That is utterly irresponsible, he said, noting that the opposition had remained silent when Serbian holy sites in Kosovo-Metohija had been torched in 2004 and when Pristina had unilaterally declared independence in 2008.
