Vucic: Important, substantial discussion with Rubio, focus on economy, trade

NEW YORK - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday he had had an important and substantial discussion with US State Secretary Marco Rubio in New York about strengthening the Serbia-US political dialogue, advancement of economic cooperation and joint security challenges.

"The discussion focused on the economy and trade, especially when it comes to resolving the issue of US tariffs. We also assessed possibilities for new investments, cooperation in the energy sector and new technologies, as well as prospects offered by the mechanism of our strategic dialogue," Vucic wrote in an Instagram post.

At the meeting, Vucic noted that Serbia was committed to preservation of peace and stability as the preconditions for any further progress and better life for all citizens, and thanked the US for its role in protecting the security of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, as well as for its contribution to the process of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.

Vucic also said that, at the same time, Serbia appreciated US support on its path to full EU membership, which he noted represented "one of our country's strategic goals."

"Open and sincere dialogue, based on the foundations of mutual trust and respect, represents the best path to strengthening the Serbia-US partnership. I am confident that our relations will gain even stronger momentum in the future, to mutual benefit and in the interest of peace, stability and prosperity," Vucic posted.

Vucic and Rubio met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York.
