NEW YORK - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly session in New York.

"A good discussion with President Kavelashvili. Serbia-Georgia relations are traditionally friendly and good, based on our cultural and historical closeness, and this year we also mark 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. Serbia and Georgia are connected by a sincere friendship between our nations, based on similar values, mutual respect and warm hospitality. I believe that strengthening political dialogue and cultural and educational exchange, as well as an increasingly dynamic economic cooperation, will help us to raise our relations to an even higher level, to the benefit of the citizens of both countries," Vucic posted on Instagram.

He noted that there was mutual interest in, and significant space for, advancement of cooperation, especially in trade, investments and tourism, to be helped further by launching direct flights between Belgrade and Tbilisi.

"I also especially welcome Georgia's decision to take part in EXPO 2027 in Belgrade," Vucic noted.

Earlier, Vucic also met with Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
