BELGRADE - Serbian PM Djuro Macut met with new Egyptian Ambassador to Belgrade Ahmad Salam Soliman on Friday to discuss advancement of bilateral relations, noting that Serbia looked forward to every new step in the cooperation with Egypt.
Macut highlighted opportunities to advance those relations, especially in the economy, trade, tourism, agriculture and the defence industry.
Noting that the two countries had signed a FTA that had entered into force on September 1, Macut said citizens of both countries would benefit from more free movement of goods, services and capital.
"Serbia looks forward to every new step in the cooperation with Egypt, with which it is connected by traditionally friendly relations based on appreciation, respect and historic and cultural closeness," Macut said.
The parties agreed on the necessity of launching direct flights between Belgrade and Cairo and noted that the move would be a further step towards deepening the cooperation between the two countries.
Soliman thanked Serbia for supporting an Egyptian representative's candidacy for the post of UNESCO secretary general, as well as for Macut's visit to Egypt in June this year.
The ambassador noted that this demonstrated Serbia's appreciation for the relations with Egypt.
He noted that the international specialised EXPO 2027 in Belgrade was a major opportunity to showcase Egypt, given the large number of participants.
