DAVOS - The world is heading in a crazy direction and Serbia must preserve peace and its growing economy, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in Davos on Tuesday, adding that work on a new development plan for Serbia until 2035 had begun and that the document was due to be unveiled by March 1.
"A new, different world is emerging. We have to be wise enough, to hide under a rock for a bit until the rain stops and then come out once the sun comes out a little bit, but our economy must make progress. That is why these plans we are working on are very serious and thorough," Vucic told reporters in Davos.
He said work on the plans had been underway for a while now and that an attempt would be made to present it to the people by March 1.
"I am ready to speak with all political stakeholders and to present our findings and realisations to them, to hear their opinions about all that, to speak with the people and tell them what dangers are lurking ahead, because all this is not going in a good direction for the whole world," Vucic said.
Serbia is not excluded from the world, and we cannot pretend it is, Vucic noted.
"From all speeches, including from the speech by the Swiss president, you were able to hear how high the concern here in this country is," Vucic said.
He said he believed Serbia would also be able to tackle the issue of US tariffs and start cooperating with some US companies.
Vucic also said he would have bilateral meetings with the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as discussions with Hungarian and Swiss officials and the Czech PM.
"I am hoping for good news. I have asked the Czech PM that they tell us what their decision on EXPO will be," he said. Vucic also said he believed he would soon receive an invitation to pay a major official bilateral visit to China that he said was very important for Serbia.
Vucic meets with Lagarde
DAVOS - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde in Davos on Tuesday to present Serbia's ambitious investment plans.
In an Instagram post, Vucic wrote that he had informed Lagarde in brief of Serbia's ambitious investment plans for the coming period and noted that, in spite of a complex geopolitical context, the country continued to work, with commitment, on accelerated growth. He
added that this was recognised in international circles as well and that Serbia was particularly proud of that.
"An excellent discussion with ECB President Christine Lagarde, with whom I exchanged views on the resilience and transformations of the global economy amid trade tensions and an uncertain political environment," Vucic posted.
Vucic, Nawrocki meet in Davos
DAVOS - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with Polish President Karol Nawrocki in Davos on Tuesday to discuss strengthening of bilateral cooperation, and noted that Poland was an exceptionally significant partner, not only because of Serbia's EU path, but also when it comes to bilateral relations and trade.
In an Instagram post, Vucic wrote that the discussion with Nawrocki had addressed further strengthening of political dialogue and cooperation with Poland.
"We will continue to advance our ties in areas of mutual interest, and I also took the opportunity to invite President Nawrocki to visit Serbia," Vucic posted.
World Economic Forum opens in Davos, also attended by Vucic
DAVOS - The 56th World Economic Forum (WEF) opened in Davos on Tuesday.
At a ceremony also attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, WEF President Borge Brende welcomed the participants.
Later in the day, Vucic will attend a session on shaping Eurasia's economic identity, as well as a round table discussion on a new European geopolitical strategy, which will bring together global economic leaders.
While in Davos, Vucic will have numerous bilateral meetings with international and European officials, as well as with representatives of international organisations, financial institutions and leading companies.
Earlier, Vucic has said he would have more than 60 meetings in Davos and that the forum was an ideal opportunity to meet with many world leaders and to solve issues that were important for Serbia.
