Vucic, Putin discuss natural gas arrangement, global political affairs
BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone on Monday.
In an exhaustive and substantial discussion, Vucic thanked Putin for an extension of Serbia's natural gas deal with Russia under very favourable terms.
In a statement, the presidential press office said the three-month extension enabled Serbia to buy gas according to the oil formula - at a price that is half of the present market price and significantly lower compared to the majority of European countries.
It said the arrangement included flexibility of supply and an option to buy more than 6 mln cubic m of natural gas a day if necessary.
Amid complex geopolitical circumstances and numerous challenges in the European and global energy markets, ensuring reliable supply conditions and long-term energy security was crucial for Serbia, given the significance of stable supplies for businesses and citizens, the statement said.
Vucic and Putin also discussed global political affairs, including the situation in Europe and the Middle East, as well as relations in the Western Balkans.
Vucic again thanked Putin for Russia's firm position and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia, in line with the UN Charter and UNSCR 1244.
The two presidents also exchanged views on bilateral topics and progress of cooperation in key areas such as the economy, infrastructure, agriculture, the pharmaceuticals industry, the IT sector and artificial intelligence, as well as energy.
Vucic noted that Serbia would continue to pursue a responsible and serious policy, safeguarding stability, its economic interests and the security of citizens.
