BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Sunday evening the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) had won the local elections in all ten local self-government units where voters had cast their ballots earlier in the day.
Speaking to reporters at the SNS headquarters in New Belgrade, Vucic thanked the citizens for their enormous trust in the party.
"That is 10-0. Thank you to Serbia. I hope we will see future elections as democratic competition, as a holiday, and not as a war," Vucic added.
He said that the votes had not been fully counted as yet but that the outcome of the elections was clear.
The local elections were held in the city of Bor and the municipalities of Smederevska Palanka, Bajina Basta, Kula, Lucani, Arandjelovac, Kladovo, Knjazevac, Majdanpek and Sevojno.
Vucic said the SNS was leading with 52.96 pct of votes won in Arandjelovac, ahead of a student list that won 44.9 pct.
He added that an SNS-led electoral list had garnered 53.49 pct of votes in Bajina Basta, while a pro-blockade list won 44.35 pct, as well as that the ruling party had won 49.2 pct in Bor, with a local pro-blockade list taking 43 pct.
Vucic said an SNS-led list had won the most convincing victory in Kladovo, taking 71.98 pct of 100 pct of votes counted, while a pro-blockade list won 29.69 pct.
In Knjazevac, an SNS list is leading with 57.11 pct of votes, ahead of two pro-blockade lists that won 8.9 pct and 32.9 pct, respectively, Vucic said.
He said the electoral race had been the most uncertain in Kula, where an SNS-led list was leading with 50.52 pct of votes, ahead of a pro-blockade list that garnered 48 pct.
He said the ruling party had won 63.78 pct of votes in Lucani and 65.64 pct in Majdanpek, as well as 51.48 pct in Sevojno, where an opposition list won 44.84 pct.
Vucic said the turnout in Smederevska Palanka, the largest of the nine municipalities, had been 64.5 pct and that an SNS list had garnered 58 pct of votes, while a student list had won 29.22 pct.
