BELGRADE - The head of the Serbian parliamentary friendship group with Venezuela, Marko Milosevic, met with Venezuelan Ambassador to Belgrade Jaidys Briceno on Thursday to discuss bilateral relations, support for Serbia on the Kosovo-Metohija issue and the situation in Venezuela following the events in January.

Milosevic said Serbia and Venezuela were friendly countries and thanked Briceno for Venezuela's years-long efforts to maintain its position in all international organisations regarding the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, an official statement said.

Briceno informed Milosevic in detail of the situation in Venezuela following the January events and noted that, regardless of those developments, her country was especially proud that peace had been preserved and that there had been no regime change.

She informed Milosevic of a re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Venezuela and the US, as well as of a series of agreements in the economy and the energy sector, and added that Venezuela was approaching this in a strategic and pragmatic manner.

They also spoke about the internal situation in Venezuela, its relations with other Latin American countries, as well as the situation in the Middle East.

They also discussed Serbia's EU accession process and the reasons why it has still not resulted in full-fledged membership, as well as euroskepticism among Serbians, and also exchanged views on their countries' cooperation with strategic partners and traditionally friendly nations.
