BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic spoke with Latvian counterpart Daiga Mierina on Monday to discuss the opening of a Serbian embassy in Riga, and noted that the move would help to better connect Serbia with the Baltic region.
"I have just had a conversation with Latvian Parliament Speaker Daiga Mierina. The reason for our conversation is the opening of Serbia's embassy in Riga. Ambassador Milena Mitic left for Latvia on Friday, and Ms Mierina and I agreed that this represents the start of a new chapter in Serbia-Latvia relations. Besides, the opening of our embassy in Riga will also contribute to connecting Serbia and the Baltic region more strongly, as well as to better and more immediate communication with the Baltic states," Brnabic posted on Instagram.
She added that Mierina had said she was also pleased with the launch of direct Air Baltic flights between Belgrade and Riga.
"Without any doubt, that will help to better connect our two countries overall," Brnabic posted.
She said that they had also discussed Serbia's EU integration and that she had asked Mierina for Latvia's support for Serbia on its EU path.
"Besides, we continue to work on strengthening our parliamentary cooperation and advancement of political and economic relations between our two countries, which is exceptionally important for the Republic of Serbia," Brnabic concluded.
