BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday elections in Serbia would be held within three to four months and that his decision on whether to be a candidate for PM would be a transparent one and in line with the Constitution and the law.
Asked by a reporter if his recent announcement that he would resign in a matter of weeks meant that early parliamentary elections would be called soon and whether it was realistic to expect him to become PM in case of an absolute victory for the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, Vucic responded:
"We will have elections soon. By saying 'soon', I mean within three or four months, that is it. I do not know what else to tell you. As for whether I will be a candidate for PM or not, whatever I do and whichever decision I make, it will definitely be a transparent one, like my announcement that I will resign. When that happens, it will be no surprise to anyone, and whether it will take place in August or on September 1, it is all the same to the people, they can now expect that to happen - or at the end of July, they can expect that."
He said the decision would depend on the bodies of some political parties, as well as on his personal energy and everything else.
"So, we have yet to discuss that. But I am not saying that I have cut short my term or anything else, I am adhering to the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia and the constitutional categories. I am doing everything transparently in line with the Constitution and the law, which will remain that way in the future as well," Vucic said.
