WASHINGTON - Ahead of the launch of US-Serbia strategic dialogue, Serbian FM Marko Djuric said in Washington Serbia and the US would on Friday also sign MoUs on cooperation the energy sector and education.
"Today's discussions will focus on a series of topics - besides the ceremonial and formal opening of strategic dialogue, today, we will also sign a memorandum on cooperation in the energy sector, which will open up important new prospects for our country's energy security because it implies construction of new gas interconnectors. We will sign a MoU on cooperation in education - an expansion of the Fulbright programme, which will create new opportunities for our students, our youth, our scientists, and enable the two countries to support the academic community and its development through joint forces," Djuric said.
He said the situation in the Balkans was being assessed with the US side and noted that Serbia was a firm partner to the US in preservation of peace and stability in the region because maintaining that stability was a strategic and vital state and national interest of Serbia.
"Our country accounts for 57-58 pct of the regional economy, and our people live in all countries in the region," Djuric said.
He noted that Serbia had acceded to the NASA Artemis Accords on Thursday evening and said it was an important symbolic move for Serbian science.
"The agreement we concluded with NASA last night opens a new era in Serbia-US scientific cooperation," he said.
