EP passes resolution on developments in Belgrade-Pristina dialogue

STRASBOURG - The European Parliament passed a "Resolution on the recent developments in the Serbia-Kosovo dialogue" on Thursday.

The document is not legally binding and any recommendations in it require a consensus of EU member states.

The strongly-worded document calls on Belgrade and Pristina to de-escalate the situation in the wake of a September 24 attack on the so-called Kosovo Police in Banjska, establish all facts related to the incident and return to dialogue.

Among other things, the resolution calls on the European Commission and the European Council to take measures against Serbia in case it was determined it had been directly involved in the incident.

In a statement to Tanjug on Wednesday, Elvira Kovac, a member of the Serbian delegation to the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly, said the EP resolution would not be binding and that EU member states currently lacked the consensus required to impose sanctions on Serbia.
