BELGRADE - Electoral silence ahead of Sunday's parliamentary polls in Serbia as well as provincial elections in Vojvodina and local elections in Belgrade and dozens of municipalities across the country began at midnight.
The electoral silence ends on Sunday at 8 pm, when polling stations close.
Publication of projections of electoral results, public presentations of candidates and their electoral programmes in media outlets or at public gatherings, as well as calls to voters to vote, or not to vote, for certain electoral lists of candidates, are prohibited during electoral silence.
Displaying symbols of political parties and other propaganda material at polling stations and within 50 metres of them is also prohibited.
Under the law on election of MPs, violation of the rules of electoral silence by legal or natural persons is punishable by fines.
The rules apply to television and radio stations, print media as well as Internet portals registered as media outlets, while campaigning on social media networks is not regulated by law.
