BELGRADE - Svetislav Pesic confirmed on Tuesday he is no longer head coach of the Serbia men's national basketball team.
Confirming media reports that he would no longer be at the helm of the national team, Pesic told Politika he had made his decision on this before the trip to Paris for the Olympic Games.
"Basketball Federation of Serbia Predrag Danilovic has resigned. My understanding is that he did so to enable the new Federation top officials to form a new coaching staff and set the objectives at the start of a new Olympic cycle. As far as I am concerned personally, it was even before Paris that I announced that someone else needs to continue what I have started," Pesic said.
"Of course, I will always be available to Serbian basketball but I will turn to other objectives and projects I did not have the time for because I was in the Serbian national team's service 24 hours a day," he added.
After taking over as Serbia head coach in 2021, Pesic, 75, won the silver medal at the 2023 World Cup in Manila and the bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
