MANCHESTER - Manchester City came from behind in the second half to defeat Red Star Belgrade 3-1 in a UEFA Champions League Group G match in Manchester on Tuesday evening.
Despite registering as many as 22 shots on goal and 10 corners in the first half, the hosts were losing 1-0 at half time after Red Star's Osman Bukari scored on a counter-attack in the 45th minute following a Mirko Ivanic assist.
Initially flagged down for offside, the goal was rightly allowed to stand after a VAR check.
Manchester City equalised through Julian Alvarez in the 47th minute after an Erling Haaland assist.
Alvarez turned the game around with a free-kick goal in the 60th minute that was mostly due to a blunder by Red Star goalkeeper Omri Glazer, who previously made several excellent saves.
Red Star had a chance to equalise in the 67th minute but Mirko Ivanic produced a poor shot from about 20 yards out after a counter-attack.
Rodri sealed the win for Manchester City in the 73rd minute with a shot from the edge of the penalty box.
On October 4, Red Star will host Young Boys, who suffered a 3-1 home defeat to RB Leipzig.
