BELGRADE - Serbian businesspeople are positive on activities aimed at curbing the grey economy, the latest NALED survey shows.
Businesspeople are divided on business conditions in Serbia as just over half of the respondents - 54 pct - consider them to be bad but almost one third believe they have improved over the past year, in particular in terms of curbing unfair competition.
As many as 78 pct of the participants say the "grey zone" has shrunk as a result of the efforts.
The grey economy is the most prominent in the construction sector (53 pct), commerce (41 pct), hospitality (38 pct) and law services (32 pct), according to the results of the survey, conducted with support from a German development agency.
High taxes and contributions on earnings were highlighted by even more respondents - 79 pct as opposed to 62 pct last year - as the main reasons for bending regulations when doing business.
