BELGRADE - The director of the Office for the KiM, Marko Djuric, says the Novo Brdo Fort will never be a "Kosovar" historical monument, as it is one of Serbia's key historical and archeological sites.

Responding to the flag of the self-proclaimed Kosovo in Novo Brdo, Djuric states that any attempt to depict the monument in another light is an act of forcible erasure of history, with the aim of further deepening the ethnic gap in Kosovo.

"In the Middle Ages, Novo Brdo was a multiethnic city, inhabited by Serbs, Saxons, Greeks and many others, and witnesses of a time quite different from today, in which Kosovo and Metohija, under the rule of Serbian monarchs and rulers, were a place of contact between cultures and civilizations," Djuric said in a statement delivered to the media.

Djuric also says that those who want Kosovo to become mono-ethnic did not accidentally choose Novo Brdo "in order to, by brazen and unscrupulous provocations and forgery, hide the fact that Kosovo and Metohija, at the time when it was the heart of the Serb ethnic space, was one of the richest and the most culturally advanced areas of Europe ".
