BELGRADE - Telenor has invested 210 mln euros in the Serbian economy since becoming a part of the PPF Group a year and a half ago, the company said Friday.

We are continuing to invest in the Serbian economy, in particular, in infrastructure and in network capacities, said Telenor CEO Mike Michel.

Today, Serbia has strong macroeconomic indicators in terms of market growth, and when it comes to 2019 operations, we can say that we are satisfied because the mobile telephony market indicated growth in line with our expectations, he said.

In 2019, Telenor launched the first 5G base station, creating an all-access test environment at the Belgrade Science Technology park for university faculties, government authorities and startups.

The right timing is key to introducing a commercial 5G network and Telenor's stance concerning the public dialogue on the topic is that the introduction of the network should not be rushed until the ecosystem is fully prepared for its application, he said.

Commercial use of the network could start in 2021 or 2022, Telenor said.
