Vucic thanks Xi for China's economic, political support for Serbia

MOSCOW - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday for all the economic and political support and assistance provided to Serbia by China.

At the beginning of a meeting with Xi in Moscow, where they attended a parade that marked the 80th anniversary of the WWII victory over fascism, Vucic expressed endless gratitude to China for all kinds of political support it has provided to Serbia in the UN.

"Thank you for always respecting and safeguarding the territorial integrity of Serbia as well. Just like I can tell you anywhere that we not only safeguard the territorial integrity of China, but also that, for us, there is only one principle - the One China principle," Vucic said.

He told Xi that public opinion polls showed that those who wanted to carry out a colour revolution in Serbia were being defeated.

"That also means a secured friendship with the People's Republic of China in the years ahead, too," he added.

Vucic thanked China for confirming its participation in EXPO 2027 and said Serbia wanted the strongest possible presence of China in Belgrade and Serbia.

Expressing gratitude to China for an acquisition of Serbia's Smederevo steel mill, Vucic said that, at this time, two of Serbia's top three exporters were Chinese-owned companies.

He asked Xi to encourage Chinese investors and tell them that Serbia had a good business climate.

Vucic also said all Serbian-Chinese projects on infrastructure facilities in Serbia were progressing well.

"I believe those facilities will serve and benefit the Serbs and Serbian citizens," Vucic said, and asked Xi that China set up a train factory in Serbia.
