BELGRADE - Serbian Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic signed on Monday in Belgrade an agreement on accession to the Frontex Partnership Academies Network with Executive Director of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) Hans Leijtens.
"The Agreement will enable the further enhancement of cooperation in the field of professional training and the implementation of European standards in the education and training of border police officers," a government statement said.
"Dacic and Leijtens noted that cooperation between Serbia and Frontex represents one of the most developed forms of cooperation with European Union institutions in the field of home affairs and has produced tangible results in combating irregular migration and cross-border crime," it said.
"Dacic emphasised that Serbia remains a reliable and credible partner of the European Union in the areas of border security and migration management and is committed to the further strengthening of cooperation with Frontex.
The interlocutors also discussed the further strengthening of the institutional and human resource capacities of the Border Police Directorate, including the implementation of joint projects, activities related to the establishment of a national coordination centre, as well as cooperation in the fields of training and knowledge exchange," it also said.
